JVC DLA-RS55U Home Cinema 3D Projector 1300 ANSI 3D Ready 80,000:1 Contrast Ratio (Full On/Off)

JVC's original D-ILA imaging technology
D-ILA, which stands for Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier, is a proprietary form of Liquid Crystal on Silicon. D-ILA projectors are characterized by natural pixel-free film-like images with smooth gray scales and rich, highly accurate colors. D-ILA reflective chips have a smooth, scatter-free display surface with an extremely high aperture ratio. D-ILA chips have no spatial dithering that causes noise in the low black levels. The gray levels are smooth and continuous and replicate the signal levels accurately. Pixels are tightly spaced and liquid crystal blending gives a film-like image that no other technology can replicate.

JVC exclusive e-Shift technology for upconverted 3840 x 2160 (4K) precision
JVC and Japan's NHK Service Engineering, Inc. have collaborated to develop the world's first projection system that uses e-Shift technology. Using e-Shift, the original 1920 x 1080 signal is processed with a correlation detection algorithm to uncover detail that can be enhanced on a 4K display. This enhancement improves edge transitions, eliminates aliasing and stair-stepping, and increases contrast in detailed areas. New sub pixels are generated based on this detection and a 3840 x 2160 frame is created. This frame is then temporally separated into subframes 1920 x 1080 pixels each and projected using the D-ILA optical system and through the e-Shift device. This device utilizes a property of liquid crystals called birefringence and can switch between straight light and refracted light by 0.5 pixel both vertically and horizontally. It has no moving parts. The result is an image with 4 times the pixel density of the original content.

Full HD Blu-ray content looks more natural and film-like absent of any stair stepping or artifacts in diagonal lines. Upconversion to 4K is not available when viewing 3D programs.

Incredible native contrast ratio: 80,000:1
For years, JVC has led the industry with projectors that produce the highest native contrast ratio. The DLA-RS55 is built around a newly designed optical engine that produces brighter images with even higher contrast than previous models. An upgraded wire-grid polarizer reduces stray light caused by reflections and helps increase the native contrast ratio to an industry leading 80,000:1. "Native contrast ratio" measures projector's ability to show the complete range of image contrast simultaneously, in every frame. There is no dynamic iris to artificially inflate contrast specifications. This is important because it allows the blackest levels of the image to be shown with the bright high lights.

The DLA-RS55 has the capability of displaying a wider luminance range: levels from 16-255, or "Super White" signals that preserve details in bright white areas.

1/16th Pixel Convergence
Calibrators are provided with 121 alignment points enabling the projector to deliver precise convergence at all lens offsets, across the entire screen. Adjustments are made to an accuracy of 1/16th pixel.

225W short-arc UHP lamp
The DLA-RS55 outputs 1200 ANSI lumens thanks to a 220W short-arc UHP (Ultra High Pressure) mercury lamp. Lamp life is approximately 3,000 hours when the projector is in the Normal mode. A 16-step lens aperture is provided to obtain the ideal brightness and contrast levels for specific viewing environments.

3D Enabled for the Ultimate Home Viewing Experience
The DLA-RS55 is 3D compatible. JVC uses Frame Sequential Method that provides a full 1920 x 1080 pixels to each eye. Images are so realistic and so natural-looking that it's like being pulled into the scene. With the frame sequential method, separate left-eye and right-eye images are alternated and require optional active shutter glasses (PKAG2P) to perceive the image correctly. An optional infrared (IR) emitter unit (PKEM1P) is also required.
3D signals are provided via Blu-ray (frame packing) or set-top box (side-by-side, top and bottom.) The DLA-RS55U is compatible with a wide range of 3D signals provided via Blu-ray or set-top box through its HDMI 1.4a inputs. Signals formats may include full L/R HD (frame packing) including 1080/24p and 720/60p side-by-side.The DLA-RS55 is equipped with an upgraded crosstalk canceler that analyzes the left eye and right eye video and digitally corrects dark and bright areas to reduce crosstalk. A new high speed driver increases brightness by keeping the shutters open longer on active shutter glasses. Also new is a parallax adjustment that allows the user to control the horizontal offset between the two channels for the most pleasing effect. 3D scaling is provided for use with anamorphic lenses. Additional buttons are now provided on the remote control to make 3D selection and adjustment easier.

2D-3D Converter Built-in
The DLA-RS55 performs real-time conversion of 2D high definition video sources into high quality, impactful 3D thanks to industry-first algorithms developed by JVC. Our 2-D/3-D technology is by far the most advanced and efficient real time conversion technology that exists. It's featured in our leading professional 3D image processor, the IF-2D3D1, used in the conversion of films and TV shows. User adjustments are provided to control depth and sub-titles.

7-axis Color Management System
The DLA-RS55 features a new 7 axis Color Management System which interpolates R,G,B,C,M,Y, and Orange individually. It allows adjustment of color phase, chroma saturation, and brightness. By adding Orange to the Color Management System, JVC has succeeded in expanding the color range. This ensures reproduction of neutral color which is normally difficult to reproduce.

It is easy to set the color for adjustment by moving color axes. Adjustment is made easier by displaying only color for adjustment. Additionally, up to three customized color settings can be stored for future use.

The DLA-RS55 is provides 12 predefined profiles that can be used in combination with the picture mode to provide faithful image quality with a wide variety of content. Profiles were developed after analysis of film prints from major Hollywood filmmakers, as well as other content such as live concerts, animation, sports and music videos.

Film Tone Mode Function
Film Tone is JVC's high performance function which allows brightness adjustment while maintaining film quality. Previously, adjusting the brightness resulted in a floating black level. JVC has solved this issue by developing the Film Tone function. This allows brightness adjustment while automatically balancing Gamma and Contrast levels. This maintains film quality without complex adjustment. There are 32 settings for brightness that allow very precise adjustment.

Easy Gamma adjustment function : Dark / Bright Level
Dark/Bright Level allows easy gamma adjustment without complex gamma operation. It allows users to enhance black or adjust brightness, and to adjust individual Red Green & Blue levels for perfect White Balance.

Screen adjustment mode
As the quality of projected images varies depending on the type of screen and its RGB reflective characteristics, JVC D-ILA projectors have screen adjustment modes that enable users to select the optimum mode to match screen characteristics for more natural and balanced color reproduction. Users may select from 255 modes to match their specific screen characteristics. A current list of projection screens and their specific modes is be available on JVC's website. Custom screen settings can be added to the projector via LAN connection.

Upgraded Clear Motion Drive
Clear Motion Drive's high-precision interpolation algorithm enhances the precision of picture-character detection to generate an accurate intermediate frame even for images with rapid movement. Whether broadcasting signal or movie content, viewers can enjoy smoother and clearer images with reduced motion blurring. JVC has upgraded this function with an improved interpolation algorithm along with black frame insertion.

Compatible HDMI v.1.4a
The DLA-RS55 features two HDMI ver.1.4a interfaces compatible with 3D,1080/24p input and Deep Color. It is compatible with the mandatory 3D formats contained within the HDMI 1.4a specification:

1080p @ 23.98/24Hz - Frame Packing (Blu-ray movies)
720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Frame Packing (gaming)
1080i@ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Side-by-Side
720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz - Top-Bottom or Side-by-Side
1080p @ 23.97/24Hz - Top-Bottom
In addition, both interfaces are CEC (consumer electronic control) compatible which allows communication with external devices to enable the control of One-Touch Play, System Standby, etc. Wide HDMI cables can be also inserted simultaneously side by side, and are compatible with HDMI cables equipped with screws for a stable, fixed connection.

HDMI Input Level function
HDMI Input Level allows the user to check input HDMI level by displaying four different samples: Standard(16-235), Enhanced (0-255), Super white(16-255), 0 level on screen. It enable users to check easily when the signal is incorrectly detected.

Motorized Lens Cover
The DLA-RS55 features a motorized lens cover which opens and closes in synchronization with power on/off to protect against dust, so even if the projector is installed up on the ceiling, you are assured of easy, trouble-free operation via the remote control.

Remote Terminals
The DLA-RS55 is supplied with terminals for HDMI, Trigger, Remote Control and LAN. A built-in web server provides remote control functions via any personal computer (or hand held device) on the local area network. RS-232C allows for control by leading commercial external controllers. A trigger terminal is provided that signals an optional anamorphic Lens to stretch the screen to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

Motorized Lens Offsets for Easy Set-up
The motorized 80% vertical and 34% horizontal lens shift function enables far more flexibility in setting up the projector as it allows the projected picture to be easily moved horizontally or vertically. In addition, the 2x motorized zoom & focus lens with throw distances of 3.0 meters to 6.1 meters for the 100-inch display simplifies tedious zoom and/or focus adjustment.

Lens Memory Function
The DLA-RS55 has 3 memories for lens offset, focus and zoom. This allows you to set a constant height and use the same projection screen for 1.78, 1.85 and 2.35 aspect ratios without an anamorphic lens. Your pre-assigned aspect settings are called up by pressing the "lens memory" button on the remote control. For example, assuming that you have a 2.35 screen and want to watch a 16:9 movie, you can resize it with the push of a button. If your movie is a 2.35 film, you can take full advantage of your Cinemascope screen.

Inverse telecine (reverse 2-3 pulldown)
To display TV broadcasts or commercially available DVDs created using the 2-3 pulldown process, the inverse telecine function re-converts the video source back to a 24fps signal and displays it at double speed or 48 fps, ensuring cinema-like viewing faithful to the original source.
